Description

We have begun planning for the 2027 Southeastern Micro Labor Workshop, which brings together micro labor economists to foster an active exchange and discussion of labor research. The workshop will be hosted by Jonathan Smith in the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies at Georgia State University in Atlanta, GA, in collaboration with the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta.                 The conference will begin at midday on Thursday, March 4, 2027 and end in the midafternoon on Friday, March 5. This conference will end with a special lecture from Magne Mogstad from the University of Chicago as part of the W.J. Usery Distinguished Lecture Series at Georgia State. Each paper will be allotted close to an hour, including discussion. We will reserve a small block of rooms at the Ellis Hotel for March 3-5, even though most participants may only need one night. We will provide some meals and there is no conference fee, but participants are responsible for their remaining travel expenses.   Submissions may be on any aspect of micro labor economics and may be empirical or theoretical; however, they should not have been accepted for publication prior to presentation at the conference. While submissions are open to labor economists in any region, we prefer those in the Southeast. Students are welcome to attend the conference, but presenters should have earned their Ph.D.

If you would like to participate, please complete the form below and attach an extended abstract (~2 pages) or working paper by December 1, 2026. https://gsu.questionpro.com/a/TakeSurvey?tt=y%2Bb6dIfmGWgECHrPeIW9eQ%3D%3D

We will notify authors of acceptance on or before January 5, 2027. The conference organizers must receive completed papers by February 18, 2027.

Contact Jonathan Smith (jsmith500@gsu.edu) with questions. We look forward to seeing your work and hope to see you in Atlanta!
